Kelly Ford, novelist and raffle winner

In my last blog post, I mentioned the lovely, hilarious, and wickedly-grinned Kelly J. Ford, who won a portrait sitting with me at GrubStreet's Muse in the Marketplace conference. We duly met, chatted, and photographed in the early summer, both outside in the sun, as well as in my cool climate-controlled studio.

Kelly completed GrubStreet Writing Center’s Novel Incubator program and is an editor and contributor for Dead Darlings, a website dedicated to discussing the craft of novel writing. Her fiction has appeared in Black Heart MagazineFried Chicken and Coffee, and Knee-Jerk Magazine. Her debut novel, Cottonmouths, will be published by Skyhorse in Spring 2017.

Kelly hails from the deep South, and wanted elements of a certain rural grittiness integrated into her portraits. To me, portraying her penchant for humor, and obvious good nature needed to glimmer through the photographs as well. Kelly's the real deal, authentic, hard-working, and uncontrived, and I hope that you, the viewer, get a sense of her incredible character through her portraits. Honestly, I felt like I won the raffle by choosing Kelly!
